Dr. Robert (Bert) Pitts

Dr. Robert (Bert) Pitts grew up in Homewood, and attended Homewood High School and Birmingham-Southern College.  He did his Doctoral work in clinical psychology at Baylor University in Texas, followed by an internship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in New York.  Through the same medical school, Dr. Pitts also completed a one-year externship in Marriage and Family Therapy at the internationally renowned Family Therapy Institute.

Upon completion of training and licensure in 1988, Dr. Pitts became a psychologist for the Vaughan Clinic at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama.  Three years later, he entered private practice with Grayson & Associates, P.C.  He spent the next 13 years there building his practice, toward the end of which he hired, mentored, and helped launch the practices of 3 additional Grayson psychologists.  Dr. Pitts struck out on his own during the summer of 2004, starting Pitts & Associates, Inc.

Dr. Pitts is a past President of the Birmingham Regional Association of Licensed Psychologists.  He is on the Adjunct Clinical Faculty of the Medical Psychology Ph.D. program at UAB, having taught the Marriage and Family Therapy class three times.  He has also served as consulting psychologist at Tri-Wil, Inc./Porta Cras School (Bibb County) and the King’s Ranch (Chelsea), both residential treatment centers for children and adolescents.
